Bengals Exercise Fifth-Year Option on Ja'Marr Chase's Contract

Cincinnati can extend chase this offseason.

CINCINNATI —  The Bengals exercised the fifth-year option for Ja'Marr Chase's contract on Wednesday.

Chase is a three-time Pro Bowler, which means he'll get $21.8 million on the fifth-year option. His salary could change if the Bengals can negotiate a long-term deal with him at some point this offseason.

The fourth-year player has started 45 regular-season games for Cincinnati. He has caught 268 passes for 3,717 yards and 29 TDs thus far, while being named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year following the 2021 season.

Last season, he totaled a career-high 100 receptions, tying for the second most in a season in team history (1,216 yards and seven TDs). He is one of eight players in NFL history to reach the 1,000-yard receiving mark in each of his first three career seasons.

The formality is checked off as the two sides approach  contract negotiations over the next year.
