Consensus mock draft has the least shocking Chargers selection of all-time

In this story:
Some things are just meant to be together. Macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, Tom and Jerry. These are just a few examples of perfect pairings.
Perhaps Colston Loveland and the Los Angeles Chargers need to join that list.
Throughout the offseason, Loveland has been a popular choice for Los Angeles in mock drafts. That remains the case with a consensus mock from The Big Lead's Joe Lago, who sifted through countless mocks to see which players landed with each team the most often.

Unsurprisingly, it was Loveland's name that popped up with the most frequency for the Chargers at No. 22 overall.

Loveland is an excellent fit in Los Angeles for two reasons. One is the need for a long-term answer at the position. Even with Tyler Conklin signed this offseason, the Chargers need to find Justin Herbert a safety valve who will stick around.
The second reason is the connection he has to Jim Harbaugh. The former Michigan coach recruited Loveland, and the two were together when the Wolverines won the title following the 2023 season.
Throw all that together and it seems the only thing that might stop this pairing would be someone else selecting Loveland before pick No. 22.
