Cowboys' Christian Parker Making Immediate Impact on Players, Coach Says

In this story:
Following a frustrating defensive season, the Dallas Cowboys knew they had to make a change.
Shortly after the season ended, Dallas fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. They then cast a wide net in search of an answer, eventually hiring Christian Parker as his replacement, who was most recently the defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The hiring of Parker was widely praised, but Dallas still needed to add players. They made a few moves during the offseason, including a trade for Pro Bowl EDGE Rashan Gary and the signing of standout safety Jalen Thompson. The Cowboys are also expected to use both of their first-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft on defensive players.
Despite the additions, the hiring of Parker is where it all starts, according to Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. While appearing on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, Schottenheimer said Parker is the starting point, and added that players are already forming a strong bond with the coach.
Cowboys players WON'T leave DC Christian Parker's office 🤣

Safe to say the 34-year-old coordinator has made a HUGE impact on the team in just his first offseason@dallascowboys | @heykayadams pic.twitter.com/RJXcicelJG
"The starting point for us, getting Christian Parker. Incredible coach. I gave him a hard time. He's 34 years old. He's never been a coordinator. Right when we hired him, I said, hey, man, why you been slacking? I was 32 when I got my first job. But the staff we put together, Kay, it's so cool for me to watch our players come up when they're in there lifting, whatever, getting rehab, and they won't leave his office," Schottenheimer said.
"They literally will not leave CP's office. They come up there. They're just hanging out. They're just talking life. And he's into shoes. He's got like 350 pairs of shoes. He's got watches that I probably can't afford. His style, I mean, his style is just different. And so I think I'm really excited about that."
Dallas Cowboys are building the right culture under Brian Schottenheimer

The selection of Schottenheimer as the head coach was a heavily criticized move last offseason. Fans quickly warmed up to him, however, due to his engaging personality and strong communication skills.
Schottenheimer has preached the importance of character and has the goal of creating the "greatest culture in professional sports." A big part of that is building an environment where players can flourish.
It appears Parker shares that same vision as the Cowboys enter 2026 with plenty of faith in their new defensive coaching staff.
