Christopher Nkunku To Make Chelsea Debut Against Sheffield United

Christopher Nkunku is expected to make his debut for Chelsea during Saturday's Premier League game against Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea bought the France forward from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of £52 million in June, as reported by Sky Sports.

Nkunku then impressed during a pre-season trip to the United States by scoring three goals in five friendly games.

But an injury to his left knee during a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund in Chicago then saw him sidelined for over four months.

Nkunku underwent surgery in August but he is now ready to be involved in an EPL match for the first time.

The 26-year-old is unlikely to start against the Blades on Saturday but Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he is set to feature in his 20-man squad this weekend.

As quoted by ChelseaFC.com, Pochettino said of Nkunku on Friday: "He can be involved.

"That is very good news for us because being involved tomorrow and being in the squad, he can start to feel the competition, to feel the Premier League, and be with his team-mates for the first time after pre-season.

"Now we need to be calm and quiet because we don't want to put all the pressure on him. Now he needs to evolve, know the Premier League, know the competition.

"But it's a big motivation also for us, for his team-mates and for our fans to see a player who should be important for us in the squad for the first time of the season."

Nkunku was the joint top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 16 goals when he shared the Golden Boot with Niclas Fullkrug.
