Browns Were an Unlikely Landing Spot for WR Brandin Cooks
Rumors that the Cleveland Browns would make a move for WR Brandin Cooks went to the wayside this morning when he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Although the rumors were there, it was never likely that Cooks ended up in Cleveland.
Cooks preferred destination all along was Dallas, which hints at why he restructured his contract so that the Houston Texans could pay $6 million of the salary this year so that the Cowboys are only on the books for $12 million.
"I wanted to go to Dallas. I wanted to be a part of something that's already special," Cooks said via Aaron Wilson KPRC 2 Houston.
Now that the Cooks talks are in the past for Cleveland, they'll have to turn to other avenues to round out their wide receiver room. Mecole Hardman is a free agent and could be interesting in Cleveland's offense. The upcoming draft serves as another possibility, maybe even more likely.
Cleveland and Cooks were never a likely scenario for multiple reasons. The Browns did not have a need to trade for an aging wide receiver with concussion issues, making north of $30 million guaranteed the next two seasons.
