Per the Canadian Football League's transaction wire, the Edmonton Elks have signed former University of Connecticut wide receiver Hergy Mayala.

Back in 2019, the Montreal native was a first round pick by the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. He spent three seasons with Calgary before his contract expired in February of 2022. Since then Mayala has had stints with the Montreal Alouettes, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the USFL's New Orleans Breakers.

Mayala's signing was a part of a series of moves finalized by Edmonton this week that also included the signings of offensive linemen Shane Richards (Oklahoma State) and Hunter Steward (Liberty).

At UConn, Mayala caught 113 passes for 1,352 yards and 12 touchdowns. He ranks sixth all-time in UConn's FBS era for career receptions. He started every game of the Huskies' 2017 and 2018 seasons.

CFL training camps for the upcoming season are set to open on Sunday, May 14, 2024.
