Although the 2024 season schedule isn't set, fans of FIU and Buffalo have some news about future schedules. On Tuesday, it was announced that FIU will be taking on the University of Buffalo in the 2026 and 2027 season.

"We are looking forward to the addition of Buffalo to our schedule," FIU Athletic Scott Carr said in a press release sent to the media on Tuesday. "The series also gives our alumni in the northeast region of the country another opportunity to cheer on the Panthers in person.”

In 2023, Buffalo finished the season with a 3-9 record. They lost defensive coordinator Robert Wright after the season and had to hire a new offensive coordinator in Dave Patenaude. The Bulls went 3-5 in the conference play in 2023.

The Panthers taking on Buffalo in 2026 and 2027 would mark back-to-back seasons of FIU going up against a MAC opponent for the first time since the 2011 and 2012 seasons when they took on the Akron Zips.

Thankfully for the Panthers, they have had success against the MAC, holding a 5-4 all-time record. This will mark the first meeting in program history between Buffalo and FIU.

The first game between the Bulls and Panthers will take place in Miami, on September 12th, 2026, which falls on a Saturday. The matchup in New York will take place on September 11th, 2027 which falls on a Saturday as well.

The 2026 schedule already has the USF Bulls and Florida Atlantic Owls, so Buffalo will be the third non-conference opponent and for FIU that season. The same goes for 2027, when they play Buffalo along with FAU and UConn.
