UTEP has made the decision to part ways with head football coach Dana Dimel.

ESPN's Adam Rittenberg first tweeted the report Sunday afternoon.

KTSM's Colin Deaver confirmed the report shortly thereafter. Per Deaver, Dimel had one year remaining on his contract and will be paid a buyout of $667,292. Deaver also reports that the move comes after significant pressure on UTEP Athletic Director Jim Senter from boosters and other stakeholders.

The Miners ended their season on Saturday with a 42-28 loss to Liberty. The Miners went 3-9 this season and missed the postseason for the fifth time in six seasons under Dimel. UTEP ended the season with three straight losses. 2021 was Dimel's lone trip to the postseason with the Miners, losing to Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl.

They did not beat an FBS team with a winning record this season, finishing second-to-last in the CUSA standings. The Miners also had the worst scoring offense in CUSA in 2023, averaging fewer than 20 points per game.

The coaching carousel doth keep spinning.
