Former Boise State Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien will join the fourth NFL team of his pro career. The Chicago Bears announced they had signed Rypien to a one-year contract late last week, with the deal officially hitting the NFL transaction wire on Tuesday.

For Boise State, Rypien was a four-year starter and left school as the Mountain West's all-time leader in passing yards (13,581), completions (1,036), and 300-yard passing games (21).

The Spokane native was an All-Mountain West selection all four years of his Boise State career. He was the Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2015 and the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year in 2018.

After college, he signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent.

Rypien spent 2019 through 2022 with Denver before joining the Los Angeles Rams for the 2023 season. In relief of Matt Stafford, he completed 18 passes on 38 attempts for 172 yards with one interception. He then signed with the New York Jets for the final two games of the season, but didn't see game action.

The 27-year old enters his fifth year in the NFL. He now joins a Bears quarterback room that also includes former Division II star Tyson Bagent. Chicago is expected to take a quarterback with the first overall pick in April's NFL Draft.
