The James Madison Dukes picked up an intriguing defensive piece for Year One under Bob Chesney.

On Thursday evening, former Fresno State and USC linebacker Raymond Scott announced his intention to play at JMU for his seventh and final season of eligibility.

Scott played four seasons at USC, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He then played two seasons at Fresno State, earning a Master’s Degree.

The Los Angeles native has 69 tackles with 3.5 for a loss and two sacks to date. In 2023 with the Bulldogs, Scott had 22 tackles and a pass deflection.

A former four-star high school recruit, Scott has seen time at both inside linebacker and safety along the way. Fresno State most recently had him listed at 6’1” and 242 pounds.

Scott joins a James Madison defense looking to reload as best they can after putting together one of the best run defenses in the nation (83.8 yards allowed per game) but suffering significant losses to graduation and the portal.
