CBS Analyst Projects Down Season for Cleveland Browns

In this story:
Cleveland has made a boatload of moves this offseason that should prime them for an improvement from the 2022 season where they went 7-10. Despite those moves, one analyst believes the Browns finish with the same record in 2023.
Will Brunson has the Browns being swept by both the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North, as well as one loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, he has them losing to the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and the Houston Texans.
That’s correct, Brinson projects the Texans to defeat the Browns and Deshaun Watson. Though, it’s likely that if the Browns go 7-10, it’s due to some major injury or players being out for whatever reason. Another 7-10 season would mean HC Kevin Stefanski is gone — that is how far-fetched it is.
Cleveland reshaped their defensive line this offseason, the main weakness of the team. They added defensive tackles in Dalvin Tomlinson, Siaki Ika, Maurice Hurst, and Trysten Hill. On the edge, Cleveland made a big trade for Za’Darius Smith and added Ogbonnia Okoronkwo as well. At safety, Cleveland has Juan Thornhill and Rodney McLeod joining Grant Delpit.
If that is not enough, they went out and added DC Jim Schwartz to run the defense. A proven defensive coordinator that thrives on getting after the quarterback.
The offense gained more explosive ability by trading for Elijah Moore, drafting Cedric Tillman, and signing Marquise Goodwin.
To think all of these moves don’t improve the Browns at all, with an easier schedule, is a tough thought. If the Browns’ season goes as these projections say and finish last in the AFC North, bigger changes will be coming.
