In 2022, Zion Turner led the Huskies to a 6-7 record which included a bowl appearance. Turner threw for 1,407 yards, nine touchdowns and ten interceptions. Where Turner made the biggest impact that season was through his legs, running for 292 yards and one rushing touchdown.

In 2023, Turner only saw two games of action, throwing for eight yards and completing two out of five passes. Turner then entered the transfer portal in November with three years of eligibility remaining.

Turner decided to commit to Jacksonville State on Wednesday. He will essentially take over for Zion Webb, who ran out of eligibility after spending seven years in college football.

Turner's fit with the Gamecocks makes a lot of sense. Yes, Turner has a great arm and showed it back since high school. However, looking at last season, where the Gamecocks succeeded was through the run game as they ranked second in rushing offense amongst Conference USA.

This past season, Jax State head coach Rich Rodriguez ran a two-quarterback system. Webb ended the season throwing for 1,437 yards and six touchdowns. Turner should theoretically fit very well into the two-quarterback system alongside Logan Smothers that has been ran with Jax State in years prior.

With plenty of time left to play the remainder of his college career, the Gamecocks could find some important stability in their offensive backfield as they continue their FBS transition.
