Former Texas standout special teamer and defensive back Kitan Crawford announces his intent to join Nevada after spending four seasons in Austin. The move reunites Crawford with new Wolf Pack head coach Jeff Choate, who was the co-Defensive Coordinator and linebackers coach for the past three seasons with the Longhorns.

The 5-11, 198-pound Crawford starred primarily as a special teamer, but also saw an increased role in the secondary as a safety for Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns this season, totaling 61 tackles with two tackles for loss and an interception during his Longhorn career.

Arguably his best moment with Texas came in the 49-21 thrashing of Oklahoma State in the Big 12 title game when he made a diving interception of an Alan Bowman pass. The pick was the first and only interception of Crawford’s career in burnt orange.

The Tyler native saw action in 46 games over four seasons in the Texas program, spending time as a cornerback and safety along with making a name for himself as one of the top special teamers in the country.

“I’ve said it repeatedly, I believe we have the best two gunners in the nation in Kitan Crawford and Keilan Robinson,” said Sarkisian to Texas beat writer Eric Henry of 247 Sports during Texas 2023 fall camp.

Crawford was part of a five-player rotation for Texas at safety, seeing a career-high 312 defensive snaps in the back end for the Longhorns and his move to Nevada should see him push for a starting role either at safety or possibly as a nickelback.

He was a four-star recruit coming out of high school per 247Sports and earned a three-star rating as a transfer player.
