Former Miami Hurricanes and FIU Panthers linebacker Avery Huff is off to Louisiana Tech to play for the Bulldogs.

Huff entered the transfer portal following three years with the Miami Hurricanes and ended up at FIU where he played all 12 games in 2023, but ended up seeing action primarily on special teams.

In his three years with the Hurricanes, Huff had eight total tackles and one solo tackle in a total of 14 games played across three seasons.

Huff went to FIU looking for an opportunity and he certainly got it, making an impact mainly on special teams. On the defensive side of the ball, Huff had 15 total tackles and one sack.

In 2023, the Bulldogs struggled defensively, primarily at the linebacker position, especially after suspending Brevin Randle indefinitely.

The Bulldogs' leading tackler in 2023 was defensive back Myles Heard, so adding depth to the linebacker core was needed. Bringing in Huff gives you multiple years of experience, mainly at the power five level, but a full year of experience at the G5 level in Conference USA.

Huff currently stands at 6'4", 220 pounds, so he brings size to the room. He is the third linebacker added by LA Tech through the transfer portal this month, along with Mekhi Mason from Syracuse and Jamarcus Jones from UAB.
