The Texas State Bobcats appear to have found an answer for their quarterback dilemma. The football program announced Tuesday morning the signing of former former James Madison quarterback and 2023 Sun Belt Player of the Year Jordan McCloud.

McCloud had 40 total touchdowns with 3,413 passing yards in 2023 at James Madison, leading the Dukes to their first FBS bowl appearance. He entered the transfer portal at the end of the regular season.For his college career, McCloud has an average of 7.7 yards per passing attempt. 

San Marcos will be McCloud's fourth college destination, after spending time at South Florida and Arizona in addition to JMU.

Texas State 2023 starting quarterback T.J. Finley has transferred to Western Kentucky and backup quarterback Malik Hornsby has transferred to Arkansas State. 

In their first season under G.J. Kinne last year, Texas State compiled a record of 8-5, earning their highest win total of their 12 seasons in FBS, plus their first FBS bowl win.

Texas State begin spring practice on March 21 with their Spring Game scheduled for April 13. The Bobcats open the regular season on August 31 when they host FCS Lamar.
