CINCINNATI — Could the NFL end OTAs and extend training camp?

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Players Association is working to finalize a proposal that would eliminate on-field work in the spring in favor of a longer training camp ramp up. Players would report in mid-June or early July according to the proposal.

Giving players a longer ramp up period makes sense, but players with children in school probably want as much time off in the summer as possible. This would impact a lot of veteran players.

The proposal could start as soon as next offseason. Teams currently report for training camp at the end of July and have voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp every spring.
