Jeff Monken Comments On Potential NCAA Schedule Changes, Impact on Army-Navy Game

This week, Yahoo! Sports reported that Bowl Season officials are considering moving up the start of bowl season to the second weekend of December. G5 and service academy football fans are well aware that weekend is usually reserved for the storied rivalry between Army and Navy. 

Army head coach Jeff Monken met with the media on Thursday, ahead of his team's first spring practice, scheduled for Friday, March 1. Monken commented on those potential changes that may force America's game to share a weekend with a few early bowl games.

"I hope that we'll always be able to keep the Army-Navy game exclusive to a Saturday by itself...I think that's one thing that's really special about that game is it's the only FBS game on TV. If you're a college football fan, then you're going to turn that game on and watch it...It's special for this program and this school, and I think special for our players. Probably one of the reasons that coming to school here appeals to young men who want to play college football is that they get to play in that game."

While Monken made his desire for the singularity of the Army-Navy game to remain, ultimately he stated he stated he'll keep the objective of winning the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy.

"I'm not making those decisions. I'm going to play whenever they tell us we can play. When they schedule the games, we intend to show up. "

Army have defeated Navy in their last two meetings with Navy, winning the CIC Trophy in 2023 as the top service academy football team. Army are set to being their 2024 season on August 30 when they host FCS Lehigh. 

The 2024 Army-Navy game is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, at FedEx Field, in Landover, Maryland.
