CINCINNATI — The Chargers released former All-Pro pass rusher Joey Bosa on Wednesday.

Bosa, 29, had five sacks, 22 tackles (five for loss) and two forced fumbles in 14 games last season. He's still a capable player, but has deal with injuries over the past few years.

That doesn't mean the Bengals should pass on him in free agency. In fact, he may be an ideal fit for Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is in the process of trying to sign Trey Hendrickson to a long-term deal. Adding a proven pass rusher like Bosa and pairing him with a young defensive end like Myles Murphy could be an ideal scenario for all involved.

Bosa wouldn't have to play a ton of snaps, but would give Cincinnati another option on key downs and high leverage situations.

It's worth noting that Bosa is a quality run defender, which is important—especially in the AFC North.

Seven of the Bengals' eight losses came by one score last season. Signing Bosa could help their chances of getting off the field, say on 4th-and-16 against the Chiefs.

The Bengals would have to have a snap management plan for Bosa. He turns 30 in July. That doesn't mean he can't help them.

A defensive end room that includes Hendrickson, Bosa, Murphy and a relatively early draft pick would be quite interesting.

Bosa is also good friends with Joe Burrow dating back to their days at Ohio State.

It may be unlikely, but the Bengals should consider signing Bosa in free agency.
