Hunter Greene left last Tuesday's start against the Milwaukee Brewers after five innings. The next day, the Reds placed Greene on the injured list with a right groin strain.

Jim Day provided an update on the Reds' ace during Saturday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"He had the MRI on the groin area and that came back clean," Day said. "There is no further injury to that, but there is a catch to it. He was experiencing some problems with his lower back and even into his hip area. They're trying to figure out whether or not that was related to the groin."

It sounds like Greene will miss much more time this time around.

"This is just me speaking," Day continued. "The Reds have not talked about a timetable, but this time they're going to want to get him right. I think it's going to be a much more extended stay on the injured list. He is not with the team right now. This will be week by week and not day by day."

Greene had been putting together one of the best seasons of his career. He had a 2.72 ERA, a WHIP of 0.97, and 73 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings.

The Reds signed veteran starter Wade Miley to a Major League deal last week and he is expected to start on Monday.
