CINCINNATI — Myles Murphy is doing all he can to take full advantage of his increased opportunity with the Bengals' defense this coming season. The young edge rusher spoke with Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com recently and noted he's swapped sugary cereal for breakfast with black coffee.

That among other tweaks, like adding another day to his workout regimen, has him in his best physical shape since his sophomore year of college at Clemson.

"I feel like I'm in one of the best bodies I've been in for years. Since sophomore year of college," Murphy told Hobson. "I ended the season at 282 [pounds] and three weeks ago I was 265-267. Since then, I've been packing on muscle. Yesterday I weighed myself and I was 274. It's close to last year, but the body fat is different … I feel great … Losing that breakfast… I'm losing that sugar."

Murphy had a lackluster 2024 season with zero sacks and a slightly lower Pro Football Focus grade (56.5 overall) compared to his rookie season in 2023 (58.2). Albeit, playing fewer games in 2024 due to a knee injury that kept him out of the first month.

He's well aware he needs to seize the moment starting at OTAs this spring and beyond.

"I know I've got everything that it takes to dominate in the league," Murphy told Hobson. "It's just building up the confidence to know I can make those plays that are ahead of me … [Working on] Being great at stuff that doesn't take talent or athleticism."
