New Mexico State running back Star Thomas has entered the NCAA’s Transfer Portal, per 247 Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz.

Thomas, a 2023 Conference USA second-team All-Conference performer rushed for 1,171 yards and nine touchdowns over his two seasons in Las Cruces after beginning his career at Coffeyville Community College, where he rushed for 970 yards in two seasons.

“Giving the utmost thanks to God and New Mexico State University, I will always cherish my time and always be an Aggie,” wrote Thomas in a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter). “With that said and one year of eligibility remaining, I have chosen to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.”

The Homer, Louisiana native had been the lead back for the Aggies over the two-year stretch that has seen the program win 17 games after winning 18 games combined in the six seasons prior.

Thomas was a lightly-recruited prospect coming out of both high school and junior college, signing with the Aggies in 2022 after his only other offer came from UMass and quickly earned a spot in the starting lineup under former head coach Jerry Kill.

The 6-foot, 226-pound back ran for a career-high 144 yards on 11 carries in his fifth career start, en route to leading the team in rushing with 525 yards and five touchdowns in 2022 – followed by a 653-yard campaign in 2023.

Thomas has 34 receptions for 351 yards out of the backfield as a receiver and enters the portal with one season of eligibility remaining.
