CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Reds star Elly De La Cruz played with a heavy heart on Sunday. His sister passed away on Saturday.

The 23-year-old opted to play, despite the horrific news.

Not only did De La Cruz play, but he hit a home run in the sixth inning. The star shortstop honored his sister, Genelis De La Cruz, by writing her name on his cleats.

Genelis was Elly's older sister and had two children. She reportedly was suffering from ongoing health problems.
