The Athletics swept the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend in Sacramento. They came into the series just 1 1/2 games out of the third and final National League Wild Card spot. The Mets lost on Friday and Saturday, but the Reds could not take advantage.

"When it's the hardest to believe, that is when you got to dig deep and believe in each other,
Francona said after Sunday's loss. "We don't have to play perfect. We just have to pick each other up and play baseball the way we know how.."

Cincinnati fell a game under .500 on Sunday and they have lost 15 of their last 22 games.

"I still believe. I do. I believe that we can go home on our terms. We have to play. It won't be easy. It's not supposed to be. Fortunately, we still have a chance."

The Mets won on Sunday, which dropped the Reds 2 1/2 games out of the third and final National League Wild Card spot. They're now behind the Mets and the Giants.
