Joe Burrow Sounds Off on Game Changing Pass Interference Call in Bengals' Week 2 Loss to Chiefs

CINCINNATI — The Bengals lost to the Chiefs 26-25 in Week 2.
It wasn't the only game that decided the Bengals' fate, but it was one of many. Seven of Cincinnati's eight losses were by one possession this season. They finished 9-8 and would've made the postseason if Week 2 or any of their other close losses had gone the other way.
Joe Burrow was asked about the 26-25 loss to Kansas City, which included a defensive pass interference call on Bengals rookie safety Daijahn Anthony on 4th-and-16 that gave Kansas City new life with just 38 seconds remaining.
Harrison Butker kicked the game-winning 51-yard field goal three plays later. There are plenty of people that think it was a bad call—especially in a 4th-and-16 Hail Mary type of situation.
Did Burrow think it was a good call?
"If I was the quarterback of that offense I would've been frustrated if we didn't get that pass interference call," Burrow said on the Dan Patrick Show. "It was close in that moment. If that was in the second quarter, it's pass interference nine times out of 10. In that moment, it's probably a 50-50 coin toss, but I don't blame them for that one."
That play is one of the biggest "what-ifs" of the 2024 season. It didn't go the Bengals' way, but Burrow clearly wasn't going to complain about the officials.
Following the game, Burrow said the loss was "as frustrating [of a loss] as I have had"
The Bengals' inability to close out games and make plays with the game on the line is a big reason why they missed the playoffs for a second-straight season.
