CINCINNATI — Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins was just hoping to catch a few passes from Joe Burrow during OTAs this offseason. Instead, he had to prepare his hands for daily practices with his starting quarterback.
"I don’t know what he’s been doing this offseason since he’s been hurt, but he came back way stronger," Higgins said on Tuesday. "The balls got a little bit more zip."
Burrow, 24, is still recovering from a torn left ACL and MCL. The rehabilitation process hasn't stopped him from improving other parts of his game.
“When we first got back he threw me a slant and ‘I was like oh, sh--," Higgins said with a smile.
Burrow found Higgins 43 times for 629 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games last season. Despite their success, they're hoping to get better at creating big plays downfield.
"Last year I didn’t capitalize for the most part on deep balls. This year I’m really focusing on capitalizing on those deep balls because they’re key plays in games," Higgins said.
Burrow threw deep to Ja'Marr Chase, Higgins and the rest of his wide receivers on Tuesday. It was another step forward in their quest to have one of the NFL's best offenses this season.
