Buffalo Bills' Roster Cutdown Tracker: Team announces 27 players cuts on Tuesday

In this story:
It's the time of year when The Turk makes its unwelcomed appearance in Orchard Park, delivering the bad news to tens of Buffalo Bills' players.
With the NFL roster cutdown deadline set for Tuesday, August 26 at 4 p.m. ET, the Bills have begun to trim their list from 90 players down to the 53-man maximum.
All cuts with less than four years of NFL service time must pass through the league's waiver system and can be claimed by another team prior to Wednesday, August 27 at 12 p.m. ET. Once a player clears waivers, he becomes a free agent permitted to sign with any team.
The Bills started the required purge on Sunday afternoon, fewer than 24 hours after closing out the preseason game schedule with a 23-19 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Recent signees CB Zy Alexander, S Tre Herndon, DB Garnett Hollis, DE Nelson Ceaser and RB Elijah Young all met The Turk on Sunday. Undrafted rookie offensive lineman Rush Reimer, who was with the team since spring, was also waived along with former New England Patriots' tight end Matt Sokol.
The Bills also released quarterbacks Mike White and Shane Buechele, meaning Mitch Trubisky will return as the team's QB2 behind Josh Allen.
On Tuesday evening, the Bills announced 27 more player cuts as well as two Injured Reserve designations. First-round rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston and backup offensive tackle will start the season on IR and will be eligible to return in Week 5.
Bills' cuts (subject to waivers)
CB Zy Alexander (R)
Rookie UDFA signed with the Bills on August 20.
OL Jacob Bayer (R)
The undrafted rookie center was in the building since early May as one of the team's initial UDFA signings. His effort was highlighted by Joe Brady in a recent "Hard Knocks" episode, but there was realistically no room at the position.
QB Shane Buechele
The star of the preseason finale seems destined for the Bills' practice squad, should he clear waivers.
WR Deon Cain
The familiar face signed on July 28, but was buried on the WR depth chart.
DE Nelson Ceaser
Former All-Big 12 selection signed on August 14 after a UFL stint, spent 2024 training camp with Seattle Seahawks .
LB Jimmy Ciarlo
The Bills reportedly have the intention of signing the "Hard Knocks" star to the practice squad after he presumably clears waivers.

OL Travis Clayton
The 2024 seventh-round draft pick spent his rookie season on the practice squad. His NFL International Pathway status would allow the Bills to carry a p-squad 17th player.
TE Zach Davidson
The Bills' TE4 once again, Davidson likely has a practice squad spot waiting.
WR Grant DuBose (injured)
The former seventh-rounder signed with the Bills on August 19 before suffering a collarbone injury on August 20.
OL Mike Edwards
The Bills' undrafted free agent guard spent his rookie season on the practice squad.
RB Frank Gore Jr.
After spending 2024 on the practice squad, Gore totaled more than 100 rush yards and 100 receiving yards during preseason play this summer.
WR Stephen Gosnell (R)
The undrafted rookie WR quickly became a favorite of offensive coordinator Joe Brady, so it wouldn't be surprising if Gosnell joins the practice squad in a developmental role.
OL Richard Gouraige
The reserve offensive tackle has spent the last two seasons on the Bills' practice squad, so there's a decent chance he'll be back.
CB Daequan Hardy
The 2024 sixth-round draft pick spent his rookie season on the practice squad and has yet to break through.
DT Marcus Harris
The Auburn product joined the team prior to June minicamp.

DB Garnett Hollis (R)
Rookie UDFA signed with Buffalo prior to the preseason finale after being released by the Green Bay Packers.
LB Keonta Jenkins (R)
The Virginia Tech product was one of the more impressive undrafted rookies before getting injured. He appears to be a P-squad priority.
TE Keleki Latu (R)
The undrafted rookie tight end show flashes during the summer, but there isn't room right now moving forward with Dawson Knox, Dalton Kincaid and Jackson Hawes all being roster locks.
DT Zion Logue
Would seemingly be a practice squad priority after spending 2024 in the system.
OL Rush Reimer (R)
Rookie UDFA, who initially signed with the Bills prior to May rookie camp, was released in early August before returning for the final exhibition game.
DT Casey Rogers
The Bills claimed Rogers off waivers from the New York Giants in early May. Mainly serving as training camp competition, he was always a longshot to make the roster due to the log jam at DT.
DE Paris Shand
The LSU product was one of the Bills' initial UDFA rookie signees this spring.
TE Matt Sokol
NFL practice squad journeyman tight end joined Buffalo at the start of training camp when Dawson Knox was on the non-football injury liist.

LB Edefuan Ulofoshio
The Bills have given up on their 2024 fifth-round draft pick, for now.
RB Elijah Young (R)
Rookie UDFA added for the August 23 exhibition against Tampa Bay after starting the summer with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Bills' cuts (vested veterans)
OL Dan Feeney
The grizzled veteran, who signed in August, offers versatility on the offensive line interior. He would make a good practice squad insurance policy if both parties are interested.
S Darrick Forrest
Forrest, who made four interceptions as a starter for the Washington Commanders in 2022, was the Bills' lone free-agent addition at safety this past offseason.

OL Kendrick Green
Green joined the Bills as a free agent this past offseason. His value dropped when 2024 fifth-round interior lineman Sedrick Van Pran-Granger was activated off PUP on Tuesday afternoon.
WR KJ Hamler
The Denver Broncos' former second-round pick, who became a "Hard Knocks" sensation this summer, spent the 2024 campaign on the Bills' practice squad.
S Tre Herndon
The Bills took a flier on the former Jacksonville Jaguars' starter after the preseason opener when safeties Cole Bishop and Taylor Rapp were both banged up.
CB Dane Jackson
The Bills' 2020 seventh-round draft pick returned this offseason after one disappointing season with the Carolina Panthers. Although he was underwhelming, he's definitely a P-squad candidate.

DT Jordan Phillips
Here yesterday, gone today, back tomorrow. The veteran has agreed to sign a practice squad deal this week.
WR Laviska Shenault
The Jacksonville Jaguars' former second-round pick likely needed to unseat return specialist Brandon Codrington in order to earn a roster spot, but he apparently didn't show enough.
QB Mike White
As August rolled on, it became apparent that Mitch Trubisky would successfully fend off White's challenge for the QB2 role. White spent 2024 on Buffalo's practice squad and could be a candidate to return in that capacity.

WR Kristian Wilkerson
The free-agent addition showed flashes, but was always seemingly behind Elijah Moore and Tyrell Shavers in the race for a roster spot.
