Cardinals Blocked an Assistant From Interviewing for Jim Schwartz's Browns Defense

Matt Burke is heading to the Houston Texans, but at one point it looked like the Cleveland Browns could be a spot.

Cleveland Browns had hoped to interview Matt Burke to be their next defensive line coach, but that never worked out. According to a report, the Browns were blocked by the Arizona Cardinals to interview Burke. The Cardinals were not going to allow Burke to make an even switch.

Since then, Burke has accepted the job to be the next defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. This comes as the first big hire, the choice for DeMeco Ryans in Houston.

Chris Kiffin is still on the Browns staff listed as the defensive line coach. Kiffin joined the Browns in 2020 and has been the defensive line coach since then. At one point last offseason, it looked like Kiffin was heading to Ole Miss before he decided to stay in Cleveland.

Now, it'll be interesting to see if the Browns and Jim Schwartz are looking for a new defensive line coach still. Perhaps this could mean a promotion for Kiffin, or he's let go altogether.
