VAR Robot Disallows Offside Goal At FIFA Club World Cup

History was made at the FIFA Club World Cup on Friday when a goal was disallowed using FIFA's new limb-tracking VAR technology.

Alameri Zayed of the UAE's Al-Jazira was the unlucky party as his effort against AS Pirae of Tahiti was chalked off after a robot review.

It didn't matter much though as Al-Jazira went onto win 4-1 to book a quarter-final against Al Hilal.

Until now, soccer fans have had to wait patiently while as office-based video assistant referee, who is probably too old to master their computer, uses software to manually draw a number of lines to decide whether or not a player was on or offside.

But these dark days could soon be a thing of the past because the robots are taking over.

FIFA are using a semi-automated system to make offside calls at this month's Club World Cup, with it then set to be deployed at the real deal in Qatar later this year.

If it is deemed successful at these two events, it seems inevitable that it will be taken on by most major leagues soon rather than later, based on the amount of time it saves and its lower margin of error.

Chelsea will enter the Club World Cup at the semi-final stage on Wednesday.
