Devon Achane
Texas A&M Aggies

One-Liner:

A fleet-footed athlete with game-breaking ability, Achane’s infinitesimal size limits his projection, but his skillset is prime for today's NFL.

Evaluation:

Absent of the size parameters needed as a lead back. Smaller frame with reasonable lower body mass but slight upper body and shorter stature. Makes up for this with electricity in his movement skills. Stellar in tight spaces, squeezing gaps and rupturing for big gains. Primarily a wide zone runner, but possesses the vision and lateral agility to hit backside holes. Stays patient and walks the line of pressing the hole versus sugar-footing. Slippery on contact, shaking first-level defenders effortlessly. Runs with forward lean, protecting the ball in traffic and falling forward in a crowd. Eager pass protector, showing his competitive nature despite any labels. Big play threat as both a runner and pass-catcher. Can score from anywhere once he squares his shoulders with the endzone, utilizing superb open-field speed. Natural ability to put his foot in the ground and split the seams for six. Pesky in the passing game, making defenders miss in space on swing routes. Can run the rail on wheel routes, beating man coverage against linebackers. Looks for the edge too often at times, missing on mid-field profits. Lack of size and functional strength is his biggest liability, showing an inability to break tackles or stay balanced through contact. Achane may garner the “gadget” label due to his size and skillset, but with the state of modern NFL offenses, he can easily fill team needs.

Grade:

2nd Round

Quotes:

“That speed transitions with pads on during Saturdays in the fall. Achane consistently found ways to whip past defenders at the line of scrimmage and in the open field for massive gains as a secondary option.”

Cole Thompson, All Aggies on Sports Illustrated.
