After spending just one season with the Texas State Bobcats, quarterback TJ Finley entered the transfer portal. After briefly exiting the portal, Finley has decided that he will head to Conference USA and replace Austin Reed at Western Kentucky.

Prior to joining Texas State, Finley spent three years at the SEC level with Auburn and LSU. He only played 18 games in three years and ended up going to the G5 level with Texas State.

In 2023, Finley led the Bobcats to an 8-5 record which includes a win in their bowl game against Rice. Finley threw for 3,439 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

With his best career year, the 6'7", 255-pound quarterback entered the transfer portal and has the chance to be one of the best quarterbacks in the conference with the departure of Diego Pavia.

Texas State also recently received a commitment from Arizona transfer quarterback Jayden De Laura, who is expected to be the starter.

Finley could end up being a great replacement for Reed, as the Hilltoppers ranked as the best passing offense in Conference USA. Texas State had the best total offense in the Sun Belt conference, but the fourth best passing offense in 2023.

WKU also have another starter-caliber quarterback in Caden Veltkamp who led the 28-0 comeback in their bowl game, throwing for 383 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Camp season should tell who will start between Finley and Veltkamp, but Finley has the edge with more experience and success at the G5 level.
