CINCINNATI — Joe Mixon is expected to take over as the Bengals' primary third-down back this season with Giovani Bernard no longer in town.
The 25-year-old is embracing his new role in hopes of having a career year.
"I take people's heads off when we're in the pass game," Mixon said earlier this month. "You're not going to win every rep, but I always take the initiative of protecting the quarterback for sure. When Andy Dalton was here I tried to protect him the best way I can. Now with Joe Burrow I have to do the same thing, especially with him being the franchise, better protect him. I look forward to doing everything I can. That's still helping the team be in the best position to win."
Mixon showed that ability on Saturday against Tampa Bay. He stepped up and blocked former All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
Mixon didn't take Suh's head off, but he did his job. Watch the clip from multiple angles below.
