Report: Jessie Bates Not Close to Signing a Contract Extension With the Bengals
CINCINNATI — The Bengals were hoping to sign Jessie Bates to a contract extension before the start of the 2021 season, but it doesn't sound like that's going to be the case.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is reporting that Bates and the Bengals are not expected to reach a contract extension at this time.
The two sides are "not progressing toward a deal" according to the report.
The 24-year-old has made it clear that he's hoping to sign a new deal with the Bengals, but the two sides haven't come close to an agreement.
Bates has emerged as a leader in the Bengals' locker room. He developed into one of their best players on the field last season, finishing with 109 tackles, three interceptions and 15 passes defensed.
