CINCINNATI — The Bengals have the 17th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. They aren't expected to take a running back in round one, but I've had some fun discussing the possibility of Ashton Jeanty being a real contender in the first round.

Jeanty won't make it to the Bengals in the first round, but if he did, they should take him without thinking. He's a top player in this draft. Even though he's projected to be a top 10 pick, one NFL general manager doesn't believe he's getting enough hype.

"I had a GM tell me a couple days ago that Ashton Jeanty is being slept on," Fox Sports insider Jordan Schultz said Thursday. "I said, 'What do you mean? He's going to be a top five, top 10 pick.' He said, 'No, no, no. You don't understand. This guy is a superstar. People are talking about him like he's a really good player, maybe a great player. He is a superstar. He is a day one 1,500-yard guy.'"

Jeanty ran for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns last season. He has good hands and would instantly give the Bengals one of the best running back tandems in the NFL. A backfield that includes Chase Brown and Jeanty could take some pressure (literally) off of Joe Burrow.

The Bengals have struggled in short yardage situations. A high-end running game would help in that area and make an offense that will always be led by Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins borderline unstoppable.

It's a moot point because Jeanty won't be on the board when the Bengals are on the clock, but if he was, they should absolutely take him.
