Injury Updates: Ossai Expected to Miss Season, Plus Latest on Waynes, Phillips and Others
CINCINNATI — Bengals rookie defensive end Joseph Ossai will miss the entire 2021 season. Head coach Zac Taylor broke the news after Thursday's practice.
Ossai underwent surgery for a torn meniscus on Tuesday. The Bengals will likely place him on injured reserve before they make their final cuts next week.
Cornerback Trae Waynes is dealing with a right hamstring injury that he suffered in Wednesday's practice session. Taylor said the team is still gathering more information.
The 29-year-old missed time early in camp with a left hamstring issue.
Cornerback Darius Phillips and defensive tackle DJ Reader both missed practice on Thursday.
"Maintenance days," Taylor said.
Other Notes
Much like Phillips and Reader, star quarterback Joe Burrow could get a maintenance day on Friday. The plan is for him not to practice.
He will start on Sunday against the Dolphins.
Wide receiver Tee Higgins practiced on Thursday, but he was limited. The team is monitoring the number of reps their stars are getting with the regular season just 17 days away.
