A Wide Receiver the Cleveland Browns Should Target in the Middle Rounds of the NFL Draft

One wide receiver stands out for the Browns to target in the middle of the NFL Draft.

Whether it is in free agency or the draft, the Cleveland Browns need to add depth at the wide receiver position this off-season. One name stands out as someone this team could use, and what he can do stands out as something this offense can use.

Nathaniel Dell was as productive as it gets at Houston. Dell totaled 3,155 receiving yards over three seasons played at Houston. In 2021 and 2022 he went over 1,300 yards each season. Dell scored 32 touchdowns at Houston.

The size of Dell may force him to operate from the slot position, where he could still end up a very good player. He's been primarily a slot player at Houston but has shown the ability to win outside as well. Dell is a seamless fit for the Browns due to his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. Dell is a quick burst player, who would likely be the second fastest wideout on the team behind Anthony Schwartz. The inconsistency and non-development of Schwartz is a reason the Browns need to invest in this kind of player.

Cleveland has their top two wideouts in Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Looking around the NFL, you'll find wideouts who make plays with the ball in their hands due to speed. Tyreek Hill leads the way at the top of the line. 31 other teams around the league hope for that kind of player.

Dell could be had in the middle rounds likely. The third to fourth rounds seem like spots that I'd feel comfortable with taking him at this point. He could raise his stock at the NFL Combine.

When looking at the route tree of Dell, he does a good job of getting open and uses quick cuts often in his routes. He does a good job of changing direction and not rounding off the routes. Dell is most dangerous with the ball in his hands, in an NFL offense he may get forced touches in the short to intermediate game. Dell can get open deep with his straight-line speed, but his size won't go well with larger corners on the outside when it comes to contested catches.

Dell would provide the Browns with a WR4 or 5 immediately. He could split snaps from the slot with David Bell in year one ideally. Don't let the size shy you away from a very good, productive ball player in Houston. This one would be a fit for Cleveland. In a perfect world, the Browns select defensive linemen in the second round before grabbing Dell later.
