Mikel Arteta "Extremely Sad" After Arsenal Fall Short In EPL Title Race

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that his team's failure to win the Premier League title was "very painful".

The Gunners lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

That result made it mathematically impossible for Arsenal to catch leaders Manchester City.

Arsenal had been eight points clear of City earlier this year.

But City have been close to perfect in recent weeks, winning 11 EPL games in a row, while Arsenal have dropped points in six of their last eight matches.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Arsenal's latest loss, Arteta said: "[We need to] heal the next few days, it is very painful. I'm extremely sad. I have to find a way to lift the players."

Arsenal will end the season with a home game against Wolves on Sunday and Arteta is determined to finish on a high.

He added: "We have a difficult week ahead of us and we have a huge responsibility.

"We will play in front of our fans who have been incredible all season and they deserve a really good match."
