Browns Assistant Jeff Howard Interviewing for Chargers Assistant Role
On the day that Cleveland Browns introduced their new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, the potential raised that they could be replacing a certain individual on the defensive coaching staff. According to a report, defensive back coach Jeff Howard is interviewing for the linebackers coaching job for the Los Angeles Chargers organization.
The Chargers have recently made some changes following their loss in the wild-card round of the playoffs to the Jacksonville Jaguars. They opted to fire their offensive coordinator but the defense struggled mightily as well.
There is no sure word on if the Browns will keep Howard on the current defensive staff under Schwartz or not but it is notable that he has garnered outside interest from Brandon Staley and the Chargers. Howard just wrapped up his third season coaching up the Browns' defensive backs. Prior to that, Howard spent seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
If Cleveland is to lose Howard, they should have a list of candidates to replace him. If there is a strength on defense it is the secondary that is young, bright, and has plenty of room to grow before they hit their ceiling.
