Tottenham Injury News: Mickey Van De Ven And James Maddison Out Until 2024

Two of Tottenham Hotspur's most important players are set to be out of action until next year.

Mickey van de Ven and James Maddison were both substituted off just before half-time in Monday's 4-1 home loss to Chelsea.

Speaking at a press conference four days later, manager Ange Postecoglou said that neither player is now likely to feature in any of Tottenham's nine remaining games in 2023.

Postecoglou told reporters on Friday: "Micky, we knew was fairly significant. Probably a couple of months for him, looking to the New Year.

"Madders, a lot worse than we thought. Sent him off for a scan... probably into the New Year for him."

James Maddison and Mickey van de Ven are expected to miss the rest of 2023 with the injuries they sustained in Tottenham's 4-1 defeat by Chelsea on Monday

Van de Ven had played in every minute of Tottenham's first 11 games of the Postecoglou era before suffering a hamstring tear against Chelsea.

The Dutch center-back's pace, positional awareness and confidence in possession saw him establish himself as one of the most important cogs in Postecoglou's ultra-offensive machine.

Without him, Spurs are likely to call on Eric Dier, despite fears that the former England player's lack of pace could be exposed in a high defensive line.

Meanwhile, Maddison has been Tottenham's creator-in-chief this season, providing three goals and five assists from attacking midfield.

His ankle injury could provide Giovani Lo Celso with a chance to shine in that role, although Rodrigo Bentancur is another candidate to fill the void.

Van de Ven and Maddison have been joined on the Tottenham injury list by Brazilian striker Richarlison.

The former Everton frontman underwent groin surgery this week but Postecoglou said on Friday that he "should only be [out for] a month."

Ivan Perisic suffered a complex ACL injury in his right knee in September and is unlikely to return to action before his Spurs contract expires in June next year.

Manor Solomon also has a knee injury but could be back in January.

It is not currently clear when Ryan Sessegnon will be available after his thigh injury, but Ben Davies should be fit to start against Wolves on Saturday after overcoming an ankle issue.
