Lauren James Involved In Five Goals As England Beat China 6-1 At Women's World Cup

Lauren James was involved in five goals as England thrashed China 6-1 on Tuesday to win Group D at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The Chelsea forward scored two - including a brilliant volleyed goal with her left foot - and assisted three.

James was later presented with a Player of the Match trophy for the second game in a row, having also won the award following last week's 1-0 win over Denmark.

Alessia Russo, Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly and Rachel Daly were also on the scoresheet for the Lionesses on Tuesday.

China netted a second-half consolation goal from a penalty kick - awarded following a VAR review for a Lucy Bronze handball and converted by Wang Shuang.

But the 1999 finalists were never in the match at Adelaide's Hindmarsh Stadium from the moment they fell behind in the fourth minute.

Highlights: China 1-6 England

England had won their first two matches by a solitary goal, having started the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Haiti.

But the European champions were vastly improved in their Group D finale and will now go into next Monday's clash with Nigeria in the last 16 as strong favorites.

Denmark beat Haiti 2-0 in Tuesday's other Group D game. That result saw the Scandinavian side finish second with six points to set up a meeting with Australia in the first knockout round.
