Watch: This is a Quality Film Breakdown of Bengals Second Round Pick Jackson Carman

CINCINNATI — The Bengals surprised a lot of people when they selected Clemson offensive lineman Jackson Carman in the second-round (46th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The 21-year-old appeared in 40 games and made 27 starts in three seasons for the Tigers. Even though he was a surprising pick, film analyst Mike Santagata [better known as Bengals Sans] put together an informative breakdown looking at Carman's strengths, his weaknesses and how he projects to the NFL level.
Watch the clips and read his analysis below.
The first ability the popped on Jackson Carman's tape was his mental processing. He keeps great levels with his LG to pass things off and make sure no one gets a free run at his QB. Watch here as he shows good eyes and picks up a looping LB after passing off the crashing end. pic.twitter.com/yYNRWRXfRw

The second thing that really showed up on Jackson Carman's tape was his hulk like power. He was constantly displacing defenders in the run game. Watch here as he absolutely crushes the DT and then is able to climb up and take the scraping LB. pic.twitter.com/6qDtu0xZ3k

His powerful hands are also useful in pass protection. Here he is knocking Bengals favorite prospect Basham onto his ass with a powerful punch. pic.twitter.com/HHS2BtVqg5

Despite being raw in other areas (we will get there) he has shown some nice advanced techniques with his hands in pass protection. Here he is using a snatch trap technique. It's basically just punching the hell out of someone's arm when they try to bullrush you with it. pic.twitter.com/cTT3PNWFj2

The last thing I wanted to point out as a positive with Carman is that he mostly used independent hands in pass protection. This gives him a leg up in pass pro over some prospects like Cosmi and Eichenberg who two hand punch instead. It's harder to beat IHU than two hand punches. pic.twitter.com/xLhCW1w7q4

This should be hidden a bit if Carman moves inside to guard, but his feet in pass protection are kind of a mess. You can see how he kind of never seems to hit his landmark and defend a spot like great OTs such as Willie Anderson did. It's too much nonsense after the two kicks. pic.twitter.com/zqDxgrilME

Another point of his game that needs work is his hand placement. His hand placement was pretty sloppy in college. Here you can see his outside hand hit the middle of the defender's chest which is usually a loss. This weakness should be improved upon by Pollack. pic.twitter.com/IXmRKSIiEQ

Overall it's easy to see why the Bengals are interested in Carman. He has a very rare combination of size, power, and athleticism. He's raw in a lot of areas, but there is reason to believe that a move inside and some work with Frank Pollack could help him reach his potential. pic.twitter.com/uG5kObBvnz
