Pittsburgh Steelers Over/Under Wins Total Betting Breakdown

It’s a new era in Pittsburgh and the Steelers’ over/under wins total at SI Sportsbook is just 7.5 wins.

Will Mike Tomlin endure his first losing season in Pittsburgh?

The Steelers finished 9-7-1 last season to secure his 15th straight winning season, the longest winning streak to start a coaching career in NFL history.

All Steelers offseason grade: B+

There’s a major question mark at quarterback, and the Steelers only made small splashes when it came to fixing their offensive line. But, overall, this team certainly improved. They’ll head into the season with a loaded wide receiver room, a much improved defensive line and inside linebacker core and options at cornerback. If Trubisky or Pickett click, the ceiling is much higher than anticipated for Pittsburgh.—Noah Strackbein

With Ben Roethlisberger retiring, the biggest question mark for the Steelers this year is at quarterback. Big Ben and Tomlin combined not only for 15 winning seasons but for nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl win (2008).

Now, Pittsburgh will roll with one of Mitchell Trubisky, 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph. All three have looked sharp in preseason action and no decision has been made as of Tuesday regarding who will start Week 1.

RB Props: Rushing Yds | Rushing TD | Taylor | CMC | Ekeler | Harris
QB Props: Passing Yds | Passing TD | Brady | Herbert | Allen
WR Props: Receiving Yds | Receiving TD | Kupp | Jefferson | Adams | Hill

The wide receiver room still has plenty of talent with Diontae JohnsonChase Claypool and second-round pick George Pickens from Georgia. Pickens has been impressive in preseason action and could emerge as a real weapon.

Najee Harris will continue to be the bell cow back and has shown his prowess in both the running and receiving game. Even with a subpar offensive line last season, Harris racked up 1,667 yards from scrimmage in his rookie season.

Pat Freiermuth should continue to make an impression despite the inexperience at quarterback and especially with Eric Ebron remaining unsigned.

Defensively, the Steelers look ready to compete.

But can this offense keep up? Let’s break it down.

Aug 28, 2022; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers head coaqch Mike Tomlin greets running back Najee Harris (22) after a sore against the Detroit Lions during the second quarter at Acrisure Stadium.

Beginning with the AFC North, the Steelers will play two games against each of the BengalsBrowns and Ravens. I’m going to give the Steelers an upset win over the Bengals in Week 1 (Super Bowl hangover), a win over the Browns in Week 3 and a win over the Ravens. They won both matchups versus the Ravens last season in low-scoring affairs, and I think the Steelers’ defense remains up to the challenge of stopping former MVP Lamar Jackson. My wins total is now at three.

Moving on to the rest for the AFC, the Steelers will host the Patriots and Jets early in the year and the Raiders later in the season.

Bill Belichick should have a plan to annihilate the rookie QB (if it’s Pickett), and the Patriots should definitely be able to defeat Trubisky or Rudolph.

Derek Carr and Davante Adams should be clicking for that Week 16 game, so the Raiders will take it. I’ll give the Steelers the Jets game, though. I trust Tomlin with an inexperienced QB more than I trust Robert Saleh. We are at four wins.

Away AFC matchups include the BillsDolphins and Colts. Let’s give them one win here against the Dolphins. The total is now at five.

NFL Awards Betting: Coach | Comeback Player | Defensive Rookie | Offensive Rookie | Defensive Player | Offensive Player | MVP

Jumping to the NFC, the Steelers host the Buccaneers and the Saints. I think the Steelers’ defense can take advantage of Jameis Winston and they can pull off that win, but there’s no chance they beat Tom Brady. The total is now six wins.

Finally, the Steelers travel to face the EaglesFalcons and Panthers. I’ll give them wins versus the Falcons and the Panthers. By that point in the season, the offense should be clicking with one of the three quarterbacks and the defense should be able to keep them in the games versus Marcus Mariota and Baker Mayfield.

This leaves my wins total at eight.

Could this Steelers team be a disaster? Sure.

Could it exceed expectations? You bet.

I’m betting on Tomlin and the Steelers finding a way to keep up their winning streak.
