BC Lions Roster Moves Include Extending WR Jevon Cottoy

The BC Lions bring back wide receiver Jevon Cottoy on a long contract extension while also signing three other players.

The BC Lions have been focused on bringing back key pass catchers from last season’s team by bringing back Keon Hatcher and Alexander Hollins this past week. BC once again brought back another receiver last week by re-signing wide receiver Jevon Cottoy on a three-year contract extension keeping him on the team through the 2026 season.

Cottoy is coming off a career year with the Lions, catching 57 passes for 807 yards and four touchdowns. He came up clutch in the West Semi-Final against the Calgary Stampeders with six receptions for 63 yards and one score.

The 27-year-old receiver joined the team in 2019 as a territorial-protected junior coming on strong in his rookie season with 38 receptions for 386 yards and one touchdown. His stats improved through the next two seasons, racking up at least 39 or more receptions for at least 519 or more yards and three touchdowns each season.

In four total seasons in BC, Cottoy made 184 receptions for 2,263 yards and 11 touchdowns in 66 games.

BC also announced the signing of defensive back Denzel Williams, who has been coming off stints in the USFL with the Philadelphia Stars and NFL with the Baltimore Ravens for the last two years. In two seasons with Villanova, Williams made 28 tackles, seven pass deflections, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 15 games.

Defensive lineman Jonah Tavai and defensive back Chris Cooper signed with the Lions on Friday. Before playing with the Seattle Seahawks in their 2023 training camp, Tavai was a first-team All-Mountain West selection in 2022 with San Diego State registering 60 tackles and 10.5 sacks. Cooper played for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL last year, making 27 tackles in nine games.

Seven players for the Lions have received contract extensions, with four being wide receivers.
