McDonald's All American Rosters Revealed

Michigan led the way with three recruits represented on this year's roster.

Paolo Banchero won’t lie, the fact that he won’t be able to break a sweat in his custom McDonald’s All American jersey while throwing down mind-boggling dunks to the chorus of “oohs” from the crowd, is an extremely tough pill to swallow.

Last week, Sports Illustrated broke the news that McDonald’s would cancel live games and instead host a virtual celebration for this year’s event due to safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

This marks the second year the games have been cancelled due to the pandemic.

“It’s rough because this is a dream of mine,” said Banchero, a center at Sunrise Christian (Bel Air, Kan.) who is ranked No. 2 overall in the SI99. “I was hoping that we would be able to play the game, but this is just the world we’ve been living in the last year.”

Despite the disappointment, Banchero, a Duke signee, said he was “ more than excited” to learn that he was one of 24 players selected to this year’s team.

On April 3, this year’s class and the legacy of the games will be featured in a one-hour special on ESPN.

As part of the celebration, McDonald’s will still name the Morgan Wootten Player of the Year for both the girls and boys.

In addition, each player will receive their official jerseys, and a collection of adidas gear and player rings that are given exclusively to those named to the game.

“This is what we all dream of,” Banchero said. “Growing up, I watched the McDonald’s All American game and dreamed of playing in it one day. I won’t get to play, but I’ll always be able to say I was an All American, so that’s big too.”

All 24 players selected for the McDonald’s All American game are ranked in the SI99.

State-wise, Washington, Kansas, Texas and Florida led the way with two All-Americans apiece.

Michigan led the way with three recruits represented in the game, Kentucky and Duke had two apiece.

Six players remain undecided, including Chet Holmgren, the No. 1 overall prospect in the SI99.

To celebrate being named a McDonald’s All American, Banchero said he planned to do something “totally out of my character today.”

“I never eat fast food just because of my training,” Banchero said. “But I’ve gotta go get some McDonald’s today. I’ll get some fries or something. I just feel like I should.”
