Welcome to UCF Knights on SI's countdown to kickoff!

In this series, we are going to introduce you to every single player on the 2026 UCF football roster so that you can know what to expect from them or even pinpoint the ones you want to follow throughout the coming season. We are going to go through the Knights' roster in reverse jersey-number order, with the day each player's entry is published corresponding to the number of days remaining until UCF's season-opener on Sep. 3 at 7 p.m. against Bethune-Cookman.

For this entry, we have two players with the same jersey number. So, with 10 days to go, let's meet UCF quarterback Kaleb Annett and EDGE Sincere Edwards:

Position: Quarterback

Class: Redshirt Sophomore

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 200 pounds

Hometown: Newport Beach, California

High School: Corona del Mar High School

After spending his first two seasons of college football with Boise State, Kaleb Annett has made his way to Orlando, following in the footsteps of Knights offensive coordinator Steve Cooper, who served as an analyst for the Broncos during Annett's freshman season in 2024.

"I think, you know, in life, a lot of stuff is relationship-based, and having that prior relationship with Coach Coop, and then KZ, you know, it kind of was a no-brainer, really," Annett said following the Knights' open spring practice on May 2.

2. What did Annett do last season?

Annett, in his second season at Boise State, did not see the field in 2025.

3. What role is Annett going to have in 2026?

While Alonza Barnett III may already be anointed as the Knights' starting quarterback, there still remains the battle to be his backup, which could serve as a sign for who succeeds Barnett in 2027.

Quarterbacks coach McKenzie Milton said at the Knights' local media day that Annett has "been getting a good amount of reps" and complimented his performance during the spring. Later on during fall camp, following an Aug. 18 practice session, coach Scott Frost said that Annett has "had a really good fall camp" and that he was "really comfortable with his abilities right now."

Both men took a wait-and-see approach when it came to naming a backup for Barnett. However, in this writer's eyes, Annett has been the quarterback that has stood out the most in fall camp, whether it was his maneuverability or his connection with the Knights' receivers. So, should Barnett become indisposed in any way, Annett seems the likeliest player Frost and Milton would call on to take his place.

Now, whether his performance during practice is going to translate to in-game situations is an entirely different question that could only be answered should his services be required at some point in 2026.

4. Who is Sincere Edwards?

Position: EDGE

Class: Junior

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 250 pounds

Hometown: Orlando, Florida

High School: Wekiva High School

Sincere Edwards is back for another season in Orlando, his hometown college football team. The Wekiva High School product spent his true freshman season as a Pittsburgh Panther, during which he played in all 13 of their games, recording 17 tackles, eight of them solo, six tackles for loss and three sacks.

5. What did Edwards do last season?

Edwards came off the bench in the first six games of the Knights' 2025 campaign before a Lisfranc injury ended his season prematurely. Still, he managed to record 11 tackles, seven of them solo, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

6. What role is Edwards going to have in 2026?

As long as Edwards is healthy, he is in contention to start at EDGE alongside Isaiah Nixon and Bruno Dall. He played in more games last season than both Ken Talley and Aymeric Koumba and has more FBS playing experience than those below them on the EDGE depth chart. So, even if Edwards does not end up starting, he is still most likely going to end up heavily involved in the EDGE playing rotation.

Edwards was already getting some hype around him right before his injury, so the 2026 season is going to be his opportunity to live up to it. Of course, whether he does or not is going to depend on how well his rehab process went and how he fares against Power 4 opponents, which includes a grudge match against Pittsburgh on Sep. 12.
