St Totteringham's Day: Arsenal Guaranteed To Finish Above Spurs For First Time Since 2016

Arsenal will finish above north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this season for the first time since 2016.

Friday's 3-3 draw with Southampton took the Gunners onto 75 points from 31 matches.

Spurs, who lost 3-2 at home to Bournemouth last weekend, have 53 points with seven games remaining, meaning it is impossible for them to earn more than 74 points this season.

Tottenham had ended each of the last six seasons higher than Arsenal in the EPL.

But that followed 21 straight years of Arsenal finishing above Spurs.

During those 21 seasons of dominance, Arsenal fans created "St Totteringham's Day" to taunt Spurs supporters.

When is St Totteringham's Day?

Arsenal fans celebrate St Totteringham's Day on the date that it becomes mathematically impossible for Spurs to finish above the Gunners in the league table.

It was last celebrated prior to this year on May 15, 2016, on the final day of the 2015/16 season when Arsenal pipped Spurs to second place.

The earliest ever St Totteringham's Day occurred in 2009 on March 9 when Arsenal clinched north London superiority with nine games to spare.

While Arsenal fans will undoubtedly enjoy celebrating their first St Totteringham's Day in almost seven years, finishing above Spurs is not the main goal for Mikel Arteta's side this season.

The Gunners are desperate to win the Premier League after a 19-year wait.

To do that, Arsenal must finish above reigning champions Manchester City.

Friday's draw with Southampton saw Arsenal move five points clear of City, who have played two games fewer.

City and Arsenal will play each other at the Etihad Stadium on April 26.
