Liverpool forward Mo Salah missed the target from a penalty kick for the second time this season during Sunday's 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Salah had blasted a spot-kick wide of the goal in a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth in March.

Despite that failure, Salah stepped up again in the 54th minute on Sunday after Arsenal defender Rob Holding had fouled Diogo Jota.

Salah opted for a softer technique on this occasion but it did not succeed as he rolled a low shot wide of Aaron Ramsdale's goal.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had decided, perhaps due to superstition, not to watch Salah's penalty.

Klopp turned around to celebrate after hearing fans cheering. But he then looked baffled as it dawned on him that it had been Arsenal supporters rejoicing after Salah's miss.

Salah reacted to his miss by covering his face with his jersey.

The score was 2-1 to Arsenal at this point.

Goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus had fired the Gunners into a commanding position before Salah scored for Liverpool late in the first half.

Reds striker Roberto Firmino then equalized in the 87th minute.
