Is Miami Going to 'Steal' A Recruit From Alabama?

The Hurricanes might nab a top prospect from the state of Alabama

It's rare that Alabama and Auburn lose recruits to out of state programs but Miami might make that happen.

According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, he's predicting Zion Grady will sign with Mario Cristobal Miami. The 6-foot-4 and 225-pound edge defender hails from Enterprise (Ala.) High School. He is considered to be the #63 player in the nation by On3's composite rankings. ESPN has Grady the highest at No. 45.

Grady is a one-time Alabama commitment. The current Crimson Tide coaching staff has reportedly not made Grady a priority. For whatever reason, there are also reports the Bama staff did not even reach out to Grady after Kalen DeBoer took over in Tuscaloosa (bad move, if true).

As for Auburn, there's no question that Hugh Freeze and his staff want the talented Grady on their roster. They should. Grady's upside as a pass rusher is high and he's also physically capable of dropping into coverage and making plays as well. That brings in Miami to this equation.

Grady's recent unofficial visit to UM was a success. 247's Gaby Urrutia interviewed Grady and a key quote stands out for the top defender from Alabama.

"I like them right now. They got a pretty good chance," Grady said.

That's after Grady's second trip to Coral Gables and he will take his official visit on May 31. Miami could well pull off the upset and sign a top prospect from the Yellowhammer State, something that's not often done.
