New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman absorbed a severe hit on a catch in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks.

On third and 14, quarterback Tom Brady connected with Brady on a pass across the middle. After he secured the ball, Edelman appeared to take a helmet-to-helmet hit from Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor.

Fox Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira tweeted that the play should have been flagged.

Despite the impact of the hit, Edelman rose to his feet and kept running. He remained in the game and was targeted on a pass play near the goal line later in the drive, which ended with a touchdown pass to Danny Amendola.

Independent doctors were reportedly overheard saying that Edelman needed to be checked for a concussion. The hit caused a stir on social media, with many pointing out that Edelman appeared dazed.

Edelman scored the go-ahead touchdown to put the Patriots up 28-24 with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
