Columbus Crew Dethrone LAFC To Win Third MLS Cup Title

Columbus Crew won the MLS Cup for a third time by dethroning 2022 champions Los Angeles FC 2-1 in Saturday's final.

Former Watford forward Cucho Hernandez converted a 33rd-minute penalty kick to open the scoring at Lower.com Field after LAFC defender Diego Palacios had handled the ball.

Yaw Yeboah then doubled the Crew's lead moments later following a stunning long-range through pass by Malte Amundsen.

MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga scored his 25th goal of the season to spark hope of an LAFC comeback in the 74th minute.

But Columbus held on to regain the title that the Ohio club had last won in 2020.

Columbus finished third in the Eastern Conference this season, while LAFC placed in the same position in the Western Conference.

The Crew beat Atlanta United, Orlando City SC and FC Cincinnati in the playoffs en route to Saturday's final, while LAFC overcame Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders and Houston Dynamo.
