Casemiro Set For Four-Game Ban After Receiving Second EPL Red Card Of 2023 In Southampton Stalemate

Casemiro was sent off for the second time in 2023 when a VAR review resulted in him being shown a straight red card against Southampton on Sunday.

The Manchester United midfielder was initially given a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz.

But after watching several replays of the incident on a pitchside monitor, Taylor decided to dismiss Casemiro for reckless play.

Casemiro's lunging challenge had seen him go over the ball and catch Alcaraz high on his ankle.

Luckily, the Southampton player was not injured.

This incident occurred late in the first half at Old Trafford.

The second half was an open affair and saw Southampton hit the woodwork twice but the game ended 0-0.

Casemiro will now be suspended for United's next four domestic matches.

He served a three-game ban earlier in the season after being sent off against Crystal Palace for violent conduct in February.
